Short description

The purpose of the Work and Employment Research Centre (WE) is to promote and support research, education, innovation and utilization in the field of sustainable work and employment.

Tasks

The center serves as a platform for national and international research collaboration by:

  • creating interfaces between business, government organizations, the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers in matters relating to work and employment
  • organizing open conferences, seminars, lectures and hearings for researchers, policy makers and the public on current issues in the field
  • providing a pool of experts for research and evaluation assignments
  • initiating and coordinating applications to national/international research funds
  • supporting doctoral programs related to work and employment
  • striving to become a national forum for research on work and employment.

WE organize many seminar, mostly in Swedish. Historically WE has also offered planning grants to researchers.

Steering and coordination

WE is led by a director and a steering group with representatives from universities in West Sweden and the Region Västra Götaland. The steering group meets 2-3 times a year. Since 2024 the centre is organized within Wexsus, West Sweden Nexus for Sustainable Development.

Planning grants

During the years, WE has offered several opportunities for planning grants aimed at researchers intending to apply for larger project funding. As a result of this, and the collaboration within the steering group of WE, an estimated 28.5 million SEK in research funds have been secured thanks to WE during the 2020s. Seminars

WE regularly organizes open seminars with the aim to share knowledge and create dialogues between researchers and practitioners, on relevant topics concerning work and employment issues. Below is a list of seminars during 2023-2024.
