EU working party on the 2030 Agenda highlights the SDG Impact Assessment Tool

Published

On 1 July, Wexsus will participate in a meeting with the EU working party on the 2030 Agenda to present the SDG Impact Assessment Tool.

Wexsus will be represented at the meeting by Martin Eriksson, who also serves as Network Manager for SDSN Northern Europe. The opportunity to present the tool to the EU’s Working Party on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has emerged through collaborations and relationships within the SDSN network.

Following a request channelled through the SDSN networks, Martin Eriksson presented and demonstrated the SDG Impact Assessment Tool to the SDG Unit within the Government of Ireland’s Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE) on 13 April. The presentation was delivered as part of Ireland’s SDG Champion Programme and was made possible through the close collaboration between the Irish government and SDSN Ireland, as well as between the SDSN networks in Ireland and the Nordic region.

The dialogue and presentation led to a new invitation to present the tool to the EU’s 2030 Agenda Working Party. As Ireland assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in July, Martin Eriksson will present the tool to the group responsible for following up, monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the 2030 Agenda at EU level.

The presentation will take place on Ireland’s first day in this role and will provide an opportunity for the working group to learn more about how the SDG Impact Assessment Tool can be used to analyse organisations’ impacts on the Sustainable Development Goals.

The SDG Impact Assessment Tool is a web-based tool that helps organisations analyse how their activities affect the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. The presentation will focus on how the tool can support a more systematic understanding of different types of impacts related to the 2030 Agenda.

Today, the tool is used by many different types of organisations seeking to strengthen their sustainability transition work. It has more than 35,000 users globally, with particularly strong representation from the Nordic countries, the Netherlands, Spain, France, Canada and Australia.

About SDSN and SDSN Northern Europe

The Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) is a global academic network for sustainable development that works to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement. The network operates under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General and brings together universities and other knowledge institutions around the world.

Wexsus hosts the secretariat for SDSN Northern Europe, which coordinates the network’s Nordic members. The secretariat is funded by Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg.
